5 Windows Improvements With Vista

newyork32.jpgI was having a coffee with a friend of mine, and we got to talking about the RC1 beta release of Vista. I asked him about the improvements that he has noticed, and he had five distinct things that he pointed out, while also showing me a manazine article that he had with him.

The first improvement will be the installation of Windows Vista. He says that on systems that require over an hour of time to install XP Pro, and require lots of interaction to get it started, Windows Vista can be installed after filling out just one or two forms, and that the rest of the interaction is completed, it completely installs from the CD/DVD without touching it, and without having to setup an ACL file.

Secondly, the RC1 beta has tons of drivers and has tons of support form manufactures. The previous beta versions lacked the same driver support and thus Vista worked in a limited range of hardware environments. Finding drivers for this operating system won’t be a problem at all for the hardware of today and the future. In fact, the Vista RC1 beta will even use most XP drivers when a Windows Vista driver is not available.

Third, the Vista RC1 beta now has better response time, comparable to XP - all the lag is gone. It has wake up from sleep functions, and better disk caching capabilities.

Fourth, Vista’s security improvements included in the RC1 beta include some parental control features for internet usage, improvements to Windows Defender, and a better tool bar for Internet Explorer 7 to stop phishing, pop-ups, and so forth. Unfortunately, it seems that Vista will not prompt users as much before installing malicious software, but maybe that will change. Personally, I think security levels should be an option and made available to the user of the system, and the security level settings need to be secured as well.

Fifth, and finally, tons of multimedia applications and support are included in Vista RC1 beta, including native support for BlueRay and HD DVD devices. Also software for making movies, photo galleries and DVD’s is all in there.

I can not wait to see this beta and the final product. If any of you have a spare computer laying around the house, I would obtain this beta and get it installed today!
