New Generation Gyroscope Controllers May Replace the Common PC Mouse
Thursday, November 23rd, 2006Have you seen the new controller offered with the Nintendo Wii gaming console, released this month? This controller allows you to control the actions of the game through the use of motion detecting gyroscopic sensors that translate your motions to the gaming console. So if you’re playing a baseball game, you can swing the controller in your hand to control the batter, and probably even control the pitcher the same way. I have been reading the reviews, and people who would not normally be interested in playing a video game using typical game controllers find this new generation game controller alot of fun and very intuitive.
I was also reading that a company named Pcalchemy is going to bundle this type of controller, made by Gyrations, Inc. with their new Alchemy Series Media Centers. Using the new generation controller by Gyrations, you can make selections on screen with mouse like movements in the air, without needing to set the controller down on a surface. In fact, there are no light sensors, and there is no rolling ball - the sensors sense movement, just like the Wii gaming console controller. In fact, Gyrations has this technology patented, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re also behind the Nintendo gyroscopic controller, as well.
Look for these new genration controllers to be used in a wide variety of applications, ranging from automobile and aerospace, to eventually replacing the PC mouse. I believe the introduction of these controllers with gaming systems was a master stroke of genious, as this will make the technology more mainstream and familiar to the public, as other motion sensing controller technologies are used in the future.
